Peaches

Dear Susi & Francois,
Just want to wish you both a very Merry Christmas. It's hard to believe
that we have had our precious Peaches with us for a little over two years
now, when we adopted her from Little Dog Rescue.
Peaches is doing great and we could not love her more than we do. She is
such a good dog, and loves her daily walks in the park. She has her
favorite dogs there she meets occasionally. Her right leg, which had been
infected before we adopted her has healed long ago, and there is no sign
that it had been infected. Her vet asks about it many times also.
Many thanks to you again. Again, Merry Christmas, and our best wishes for a
Happy New Year.
Sincerely,
Phyllis & Jess Garcia

We wish you a Merry Christmas...we wish you a Merry Christmas...we wish you
a Merry Christmas...and a Happy New Year :o)
Hope you and Francois have verrrry Happy Holidays!!
Claire is modeling her new xmas dress/harness, and loves climbing into
Lantz's santa hat (she thinks that hat is a place to burrow). Claire drew
the line in the sand about the antlers and said antlers gives her a mad
face. She's my little xmas package.

Makena

Hi Susi and Francois,
My Christmas Card is getting out a little late this year as we have been
busy...old excuse. What I tell you in the card is the horrible scare
with had with Makena. As you might remember when we adopted Makena you
gave us food for sensitive stomachs. Over the last two years Makena
has had a few bouts of throwing up, hiding under furniture, not eating for
2-3 days but drinking lots of water. After many blood tests nothing
showed up so we thought she just ate something she shouldn't. Makena
is a scrounger...anything that drops on the floor is hers or bugs in the
yard...yuck. Well, in Sept-Oct she had a bad bout of throwing up (more
than she should have had in her body) and this time she wasn't coming out of
it...she stopped eating, drinking water...she was in the hospital for 10
days and I truly thought we were going to lose her. I cried myself to
sleep every night. She had an abscess on her Pancreas and her liver
numbers were sky high. She was on an IV for days that was feeding her.
I got her home and she was on a number of meds given every day for the next
two months. The hospital vet said the same thing our regular vet said
"she is the happiest sick dog they have ever met always wanting to give
someone kisses". Yes, that's our baby.
Makena no longer sleeps on the floor in her bed next to us. Ron makes
a spot on our bed for her, covers her in a blanket and we all go to sleep.
Ron was calling me daily from work to see how Makena was doing at home that
first week after the hospital. It truly makes you appreciate even more
this precious life we have. Makena has had a couple of bouts of
throwing up but comes out of it immediately...no hiding, no stopping
eating...in fact she is eating W/D and loves it. One thing I now have
to do is hand feed her. She inhales her food so fast that this may
cause her to throw up. I try to put little bits of food on a plate but
it is gone in 2 seconds. The only in-between meal snack is green
beans...high fiber, low fat. I feed her 4 times a day so she doesn't
get too much food too fast. The abscess has disappeared and her liver
numbers have come down...not normal yet but hopefully soon.
I had put Makena's photo on KOFY TV's website and a few months later she was
chosen to do their station break. She had been out of the hospital for
a few weeks and I thought this would cheer all of us up. Well, Miss
Makena decided she should go to sleep on that big stuffed chair. I
kept waking her up and she would turn the wrong direction. For her 15
seconds of fame it took 20 minutes to shoot. She sat up once which is
the headshot in the beginning and then finally she laid down with her eyes
open and they got the rest of the video done. I was very impressed at
how the camera man put the sections together to make it look like she was
awake the whole time. She looked so adorable and I've had a number of
friends calling me to say they saw Makena on TV. Our little TV star!!!
I've attached a couple of photos of our precious Makena. She means the
world to us. Thank you so much for giving us the privilege to have
this fur-baby in our lives. Pam
Ok, I don't like to brag...but we do have the most photogenic dog on the
planet. Just look at her 15 seconds of fame on TV. A number of
people have seen her on Channel 20--but for those of you who have not:
www.kofytv.com/the-dogs/dog-videos
Makena should be first on the list on the left side. Just click on
Makena, San Bruno and see how adorable she is. Enjoy.
Love, Pam

Season's Greetings

Here in this
house...
I will never know the loneliness I hear in the barks of the other dogs
'out there'.
I can sleep soundly, assured that when I wake my world
will not have changed.
I will never know hunger, or the fear of not knowing if I'll eat.
I will not shiver in the cold, or grow weary from the heat.
I will feel the sun's heat, and the rain's coolness,
and be allowed to smell all that can reach my nose.
My fur will shine, and never be dirty or matted.
Here in this house...
There will be an effort to communicate with me on my level.
I will be talked to and, even if I don't understand,
I can enjoy the warmth of the words.
I will be given a name so that I may know who I am among many.
My name will be used in joy, and I will love the sound of it!
Here in
this house...
I will never be a substitute for anything I am not.
I will never be used to improve peoples' images of themselves.
I will be loved because I am who I am, not someone's idea
of who I should be.
I will never suffer for someone's anger, impatience, or stupidity.
I will be taught all the things I need to know to be loved by all.
If I do not learn my lessons well, they will look to
my teacher for blame.
Here in this house...
I can trust arms that hold, hands that touch...
knowing that, no matter what they do, they do it for the good of me.
If I am ill, I will be doctored.
If scared, I will be calmed.
If sad, I will be cheered.
No matter what I look like, I will be considered beautiful and known
to be of value.
I will never be cast out because I am too old, too ill, too unruly,
or not cute enough.
My life is a responsibility, and not an afterthought.
I will learn that humans can almost, sometimes, be as kind and as
fair as dogs.
Here in this house...
I will belong.
I will be home.
